Memorable Moments with Mahi: Highlights from the Men of Platinum Event

At an unforgettable Men of Platinum exclusive event, hosted by Platinum Guild International – India on 3 February 2026,  “The Thala of Cricket”, MS Dhoni, interacted with the audience at Taj Lands’ End, Bandra,  fielding questions just like he expertly wields his bat. The immersive evening celebrated the winners of the #MomentWithMahi contest, and marked the culmination of the festive purchase programme with Captain Cool.

Men of Platinum, the men’s jewellery brand from Platinum Guild International (PGI) India, brought its highly anticipated #MomentWithMahi campaign to a thrilling close with an exclusive fan meet-and-greet with MS Dhoni at the iconic Taj Lands End, Mumbai.

The one-of-a-kind experience was the culmination of the brand’s festive purchase programme — a rare reward for select consumers who purchased from the Men of Platinum – ‘MS Dhoni Signature Edition’ and participated in a contest. For many, this was the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream, the chance to meet their icon, the embodiment of quiet greatness, in person.

When PGI – India chose MS Dhoni as the face of their new Men of Platinum collection, it was evident that the fit was perfect.

Men like Mahi are a rare combination of grit, resilience and inner strength … the very qualities associated with precious platinum: rare strong and refined.

Perfection reflects in every action of his, and the same spirit is underlined in the Men of Platinum ‘MS Dhoni Signature’ Edition, of which he was an integral part. Just as he “edits” his field positioning as a captain, he reviewed the designs with equal care, each one bearing his signature.

Setting the context for the event,  Vaishali Banerjee, Managing Director, Platinum Guild International – India, said, “The Men of Platinum ‘MS Dhoni Signature Edition’ is a tribute to a legend and every piece in this collection reflects strength, restraint and endurance, qualities that mirror both platinum and the man who has inspired it.”

Extolling platinum’s qualities and likening them to the cricketing world’s legend, Banerjee added, “It is a rare metal formed under extraordinary conditions. It is inherently strong and enduring, and a symbol of what lasts across moments and through life’s journeys. These very qualities inspired us to create Men of Platinum, a brand philosophy that celebrates men who choose substance over show, permanence over trends, and character over display.

“This special edition draws directly from the values that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has embodied throughout his extraordinary career. He displays calm under pressure, resilience through all challenges, and leadership that is rooted in integrity rather than noise.”

PGI unveiled The Men Of Platinum ‘MS Dhoni Signature Edition’ in October 2024. The collection boasts designs that reflect not only Dhoni’s immaculate style and brilliant journey, but also his unmatched character and greatness.  Crafted in Pt950 (95% pure platinum), each piece bears Dhoni’s signature, making it a distinctive collector’s keepsake. A true Man of Platinum, Dhoni is the perfect inspiration for this special-edition platinum jewellery collection—designed to mirror his spirit and to awaken the same sense of greatness in those who wear it.

The evening culminated in a highlight — a candid, free-flowing chat with host Rohan Joshi, where MS Dhoni  spoke about navigating the highs and lows of his career and his reflections on life. Here are some interesting insights into the mind of Captain Cool …

MS Dhoni On Platinum
Growing up, like many cricketers, I was quite superstitious. I felt that whenever I wore gold or silver, I didn’t score runs. This was during my school cricket days, so I decided not to wear anything at all for a long time. Eventually, watches became the only metal I was comfortable with.

When I was introduced to platinum, I found the metal interesting. Platinum feels strong, resilient, and solid—very much like how I see men. (Not that women can’t wear it; of course they can.) But platinum has a certain weight and presence.

When PGI came into my life, it opened doors for me to experiment. They’ve been kind enough to create pieces in my own designs, and I’ve been wearing platinum for a couple of years now.

I genuinely like it—and I’m no longer superstitious about it. Since I’m not playing international cricket as frequently now, the old “parameters” of superstition haven’t really kicked in. So I’d say it’s working in my favour.

Three Platinum Moments of Dhoni’s Career

It’s always difficult to pick moments because we usually remember what’s freshest or what feels biggest in hindsight. The three big moments would be:

  • T20 Cricket: The 2007 T20 World Cup
  • ODI Cricket: The 2011 World Cup in India
  • Test Cricket: Saving a Test match at Lord’s in 2007, which eventually helped us win the series.

Test cricket is special because it’s not always about winning a trophy. Sometimes, it’s about that one match where you feel you truly contributed in a way that mattered.

Challenging  Situations on the Field

Interestingly, the toughest pressure often comes when everyone expects you to win. If you win, people say, “Of course you did.” If you lose, it becomes, “How could you lose to them?”

That’s why it’s important to respect every opposition and prepare the same way, no matter who you’re playing. Tosses, a few good deliveries, or a brilliant individual performance can change everything. Those matches made me the most alert.

His Love for Gaming

I started gaming quite early, back in the days of DOS games. I enjoy first-person shooters and simulator games. In the early 2000s, I even travelled for a match with an Alienware gaming laptop — it was heavy, but worth it.

I’m not the shouting type while gaming. Some people get very loud and excited, but I usually respond in mostly “yes” or “no”. That’s just how I am.

On His Calm Demeanour
Being in the moment is what keeps me that way.

Instead of thinking about the result, focus on what you can do right now. Whether you’re batting, bowling, or fielding, ask yourself: What is my role at this point?

This approach naturally controls your breathing and heartbeat. Staying present makes pressure manageable.

I don’t look at statistics too much. God has been kind to me. I’ve had a good international career, and I’m grateful for it. But cricket is a team sport. If one bowler hadn’t taken a crucial wicket or one fielder hadn’t affected a run-out, many tournaments could have gone differently. I appreciate everyone’s contribution and try not to dwell on the past.

One of my favourite sayings is:
Nobody can add one run to what I have scored, and nobody can deduct one run from it.

On Leadership

Leadership keeps evolving because players change, rules change, and the game changes.

I learn not only from my experiences but also by watching other captains and coaches. I believe in learning from others’ mistakes too—you don’t always need to make the mistake yourself to understand it.

His Inspiration

Growing up, it was Sachin Tendulkar.

After I began playing for India, my biggest motivation became representing the country and contributing in whatever way the team needed.

Today, my motivation is still cricket. Everything I have is because of this game. These are probably my last few years of competitive cricket, and I want to enjoy every moment.

Life’s Rules To Live By

Be honest with yourself and set your own expectations.

Practice and preparation matters. When you know you’ve done the hard work and been in tough situations before, you gain confidence that you can handle what comes next.

Every tense situation is an opportunity to prove that you belong there.
